The 45th President of the United States of America was fingerprinted and had his mug shot taken yesterday. Just let that sink in for a second. Just a couple of short years ago this guy was the most powerful person on Earth. A nuclear arsenal at his fingertips, the most dangerous and sophisticated military in the history of the planet ready and willing to be commannded by him. All the trappings of the office, the living arrangements, the flights aboard Air Force One, the luxury accomodations all over the world, the wait staff ready to serve you at a moment's notice, and the list goes on. He has none of that now. What he does have is 18 co-defendents, at least a few of which will surely flip on him. And if there is anyone in the history of humanity that deserves to be flipped on, it's Donald. Dude's concept of "loyalty" is everyone MUST be loyal to him through any and all obstacles but his loyalty to YOU is completely, 100% transactional. If and ONLY if, there is something in it for him, he'll be loyal. If there isn't something in it for him you can kiss your ass goodbye because he doesn't give a single shit about anyone but himself, that has been proven time and time again. Trump has dug himself into a very deep hole here. These are state charges. This means that even if he is elected president again (no chance, but for the sake of discussion let's assume it's possible) he still cannot escape accountability for the Georgia case against him because a president cannot pardon anyone from a state case. Pardons at the presidential level only apply to Federal cases. The case in Georgia is not federal, thus Trump's asinine assertion that he can pardon himself is a non-starter. Does this mean Trump might actually go to prison? I believe the answer is yes. I am fairly certain that Trump is going to have to do at least a little bit of time in Club Fed. Now clearly they are not going to lock him up in some super-max prison somewhere. While there was certainly violence associated with the charges Trump is facing in Georgia, this is not the insurrection case being brought by Special Counsel Jack Smith. This is an election subversion case and as such it is a non-violent offense. So my gut tells me if Trump is convicted (a very big "if" because juries are notoriously unpredictable) he'll go to a minimum security prison where he will be kept isolated from the other prisoners. That may sound like a cakewalk, but keep in mind that if this comes to pass Trump's fate will have been taken out of his hands. He'll no longer be in charge of things like when he goes to bed, when he wakes up, when he goes to the bathroom, when he eats, etc. Those decisions will all be made for him by the prison. He will be deprived of contact with his family and friends other than phone calls and letters and visits. And he fucking deserves every bit of the shit storm that's coming his way.
